World Adoption Day- I am Blessed

In light of it being World Adoption Day, the first ever worldwide celebration of adoption, I thought I would write a little something. I was adopted when I was seven years old. I had been in foster care and I was so happy that my little sister and I finally had a permanent home. We were adopted by a family who already had four kids. I was so excited to have another sister and three brothers.

Being adopted has taught me some valuable life lessons and shaped me into who I am today.

I've learned that some people are so loving and go beyond themselves in order to help others. My parents saw that a couple of little girls needed a permanent home and they decided (with the Lord's guidance) to reach out and provide. My oldest brother gave up his own bedroom for us, which led to all three of the boys sharing one room. My older sister was in the room right next to ours...she as a teenager patiently dealt with us getting up and making a racket in the mornings. They all taught me how to behave properly (I remember my brother reminding me not to take God's name in vain). My parents loved us unconditionally despite our disobedience. I admit, my family has been through a lot of stress because of the adoption and all the work it required; it was no easy task. However, they have done it faithfully and lovingly and I am so thankful and blessed to call them my family. Following their example, I hope I can be as willing to serve others and be open to giving my time and efforts to help people in need.

Because I was adopted, I learned about how I could be adopted AGAIN...by my Heavenly Father. I was adopted by a Christian family, my parents grounded in the Word and doing their best to serve Him in all their ways. They took me to church and were daily examples to me...and I made the decision to follow Christ and become a child of God. I am so thankful that through my adoption, God called me to be a part of His family. It is the most important aspect of my life, and I feel so blessed when I think about how I have been adopted twice. I, a regular sinful girl, was chosen to become an Amiri...and God reached out and picked me to be His daughter.

I am SO blessed.

It's an old picture, but I love it.
